Similarly, the army set up a special security operation codenamed, “Operation Restore Peace and Security in the Federal Capital Territory,” to effectively police the entire FCT.
To this end, soldiers have been deployed in all the flash points within Abuja and its environs to monitor activities of Boko Haram. The flash points include, Jabi motor park, Gwagwa, Gwagwalada, Abaji, Kuje, Marataba, Nyanya, Kugbo, Karmo, Zuba, Apo, Mpape, Suleja and Deidei among others.
Apart from mounting military checkpoints in all the entry and exit points into the FCT, military authorities also have checkpoints at Kuje, Airport Road, Gwagwalada, Suleja, Karmo, Nyanya/Karu Road, Karu, Gidan Mango, Karshi, Masaka and up to Keffi.
Army sources said that intelligence report revealed that the Boko Haram groups were planning to use other routes to penetrate the FCT, since the all the known motorable official routes are being manned by soldiers.
Apart from mounting military checkpoints in these vulnerable areas, the soldiers equally created search areas where they carry out stop and search by conducting search on suspecting vehicles and their occupants using bomb disposal equipment and sniffer dogs to clear their doubts.
